WOW 2.0 presents a unique opportunity to graduating seniors who are entering the workforce following graduation. 19 participating companies will hold on-site interviews and extend contingent job offers to promising candidates, with the final hiring decision contingent upon the completion of the company's onboarding process. Participating companies include Alabama Department of Transportation, DCH Health Systems, Hanna, Lear Corporation, Premier Service Company, Schnellecke Logistics Alabama, and others.
The award comes out of New York City, where the Carnegie Corporation of New York is launching a new initiative called Profiles in Collective Leadership, which will support and grow organizations and partnerships with missions similar to West AlabamaWorks! - educating youth, bolstering the workforce and demonstrating the power of unity.
Just 10 organizations were selected to be part of this inaugural group, and the Tuscaloosa organization was thrilled to learn Tuesday that they made the cut.
“Being selected for Profiles in Collective Leadership is a testament to our ongoing commitment to the students, educators, and businesses in our community," Jones said. "The funding will allow West AlabamaWorks! to continue connecting the education system to our workforce through programs like the Educator Workforce Academy and K–12 Career Pathways. It is an honor to receive national recognition for our efforts in West Alabama."
The honor comes with a $200,000 grant that Jones said will be spent improving some of the organization's flagship events and programs.

Profiles in Collective Leadership provides $200,000 grants for nonpartisan collaborations that serve as education and economic bridges in a range of communities across the country. The philanthropic initiative draws on the strengths of local government, education, nonprofit, business, and health care professionals to create career opportunities for young people and encourage civic participation. The 10 recognized partnerships in 8 states will act as exemplars, sharing what they have learned with each other and with the public.

Catch the wave of talent this summer 🌊🌴
For businesses seeking summer employees, the I.G.N.I.T.E. Summer Job Fair, an extension of West AlabamaWorks! high school student job portal, is an effective way to connect with potential hires. The event, geared towards rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students, will be held April 24th at Tuscaloosa College and Career Academy.
“The I.G.N.I.T.E. Summer Student Job Fair is a chance for local businesses to connect with motivated high school students who are eager to gain valuable work experience and contribute to the workforce during the summer months and beyond,” said Tonya Mills, Education and Employment Project Manager. “Students are anxious to join the workforce but we need more businesses to join the I.G.N.I.T.E. program and give them an opportunity to work,” said Mills.
At the job fair, companies can offer on the spot job offers contingent on the student completing the company’s onboarding process. By participating in this event, businesses not only fill crucial positions but also play a pivotal role in shaping the future workforce.

We are celebrating CTE Month by showcasing CTE teachers from the West Alabama Region. 🎉
The first CTE teacher highlight is Mr. Greer Williams the Agriscience teacher at the Northport Career Tech Annex. He teaches students from Tuscaloosa County High School, Northside High School, and Sipsey Valley High School.
“Greer is doing a phenomenal job of educating our young people on the field of agriculture. He is passionate about creating workers for this industry and providing new and innovative ways to do so. His students are gaining first-hand experiences with livestock, forestry, gardening, plant and animal science, and heavy equipment. The farm will include bees, a large garden, an orchard, cattle, pumpkin patch, and a forestry area for timber growth and management. Anyone who meets Mr. Williams immediately recognizes his passion for his students and providing them with a first-class educational opportunity.” - Hannah C., Administrator, Northport Career Tech Annex
