This weekend, job seekers will get a chance to interview and be hired by several automotive industry companies.

The Region 3 Workforce Development Council / West Alabama Works, Inc. are hosting an Automotive Hiring Fair on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Central High School (905 15th Street Tuscaloosa, AL 35401).

Twelve companies will be on site seeking candidates for positions that will pay up to $17 an hour. The participating companies collectively have more than one thousand open positions. Many of these jobs need to be filled immediately or within the next three months.

“The West Alabama Works Automotive Hiring Fair is connecting suppliers and service providers with job-seekers at a critical point — as both existing and new companies are adding jobs,” said Jason Hoff, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. “This event is offering a one-stop-shop for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the automotive industry. It shouldn’t be missed.”

“The automotive industry has played a large part in the economic development and growth of West Alabama and the State of Alabama as a whole,” said Donny Jones, COO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama and Executive Director of West Alabama Works. “We feel that this unique opportunity will not only benefit some of our region’s largest employers, but will more importantly benefit the citizens of West Alabama who comprise our dedicated workforce.”

West Alabama Works is dedicated to helping our employers find qualified employees and helping members of our community find gainful employment. In the past months, West Alabama Works hosted outreach events across West Alabama, which resulted in 600+ job seekers being streamlined into the hiring process.

West Alabama Works has taken the outreach event model to another level with the Automotive Hiring Fair. On May 5th, participating companies have committed to streamlining the process so they can hire on the spot. Jones went on to say, “This statewide Hiring Fair offers the opportunity to match West Alabama employers with job seekers they need to fill their crucial employment needs.”

Anyone attending the hiring event on May 5th will be asked to fill out an online application. Based on experience and an initial assessment, qualified individuals will be interviewed by one of the following companies:

• Mollertech
• North American On-Site
• Schnellecke Logistics
• SMP Automotive Systems
• ZF Chassis Systems

Job interviews will be granted on a first come, first served basis. Candidate requirements are as follows:

• Must have High School Diploma or GED
• Be willing to work various and/or rotating shifts that may include nights and weekends
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen

Candidates who are not selected for immediate hire will have the opportunity to participate in FREE training programs which will lead back to hiring with these and other employers. “The process is painless, the results can be transforming.
