West Alabama Works’ model is focused on an industry cluster framework like no other. Industry is engaged at all levels of the organization and is the main driver of the strategic plan and operations of the organization. In fact, The West Alabama Works Steering Committee is 100% industry driven. The larger Regional Council has more than 90% of its members as industry leaders. The success of our workforce model is based on cluster engagement and direction. Even though our model is industry driven, we still have a tremendous engagement with our education partners and service providers who are also engaged at all levels.
There are five main clusters which meet regularly to focus on employment and training needs in the region. Through these clusters, as needs are accessed they may form a taskforce to work on a particular project or initiative.
- Automotive Cluster
Chair Jennifer Jones, Mercedes Benz
- Modern Manufacturing Cluster
Chair Russell DuBose, Phifer Wire
- Healthcare Cluster
Chair Peggy Sease, DCH Heath Systems
- Construction Cluster
Chair Tim Harrison, Harrison Construction
