TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - West Alabama Works wanted to make sure students had all the information they need to make the best decision whether to attend a two- or four-year college or become involved in a workforce development program that could lead to a full-time job and career.

The line of students making their way into Shelton State Community College stretched long and wide. Kids came for the West Alabama Works College Career Day hoping to get answers for many questions.

“Definitely scholarships and what majors they offer and how the college better helps you fit in,” said Kaitlyn Creel, a Brookwood High School Junior.

Students from all over west Alabama told us a good education is the way to move on to better opportunities.

“So these students are finding out all the opportunities and then they can make good choices and ask the right questions to our colleges about the programs and how to get into those colleges,” said Donny Jones, Executive Director of West Alabama Works.

More than 40 schools from around the Southeast attended the event.

“I think it’s a great opportunity and each student should definitely takes it more seriously than just coming out here for a field trip,” Creel said.

Wednesday’s college career day wrapped a two-day event designed to ensure teens from nine different west Alabama counties are career ready.
