Canadian manufacturer bringing jobs to Tuscaloosa

Nearly 200 high-paying manufacturing jobs are coming to Tuscaloosa, as the Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority announced Thursday that off-site construction system manufacturer Epsilon Industries will be building its latest facility here.

The Canadian-based company’s Tuscaloosa operation will be located off U.S. Highway 82 near the Tuscaloosa National Airport. The company will operate out of an existing building on Industrial Park Drive.

“We are excited to be a part of the Tuscaloosa community,” said Epsilon President Chris Wiederick. “We will be hosting many of our top clientele at our facility, and we feel that Tuscaloosa offers a convenient location with direct access to the airport, as well as a welcoming and entertaining environment.”

Wiederick said the location provides access to a strong labor pool from Tuscaloosa and its surrounding counties.

Available positions will include:

    • boilermakers
    • pipefitters
    • pipe welders
    • structural welders
    • electricians
    • mechanical and electrical engineers
    • general laborers

“Epsilon Industries’ decision to locate its newest facility in Tuscaloosa highlights all that our community has to offer new and expanding businesses, including a supportive business environment and strong workforce,” said TCEDA Chairman Norman Crow. “In addition to the high‐quality jobs that will be created, we are presented with an opportunity to introduce our wonderful city, county and state to the company’s customers that will visit the plant.”

Alabama Department of Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield said Tuscaloosa’s growth is something industries are noticing.

“Companies from all over the world are capitalizing on the growth potential present in the Tuscaloosa area,” Canfield said. “Epsilon Industries is a welcome addition to Alabama’s business community. I look forward to seeing how the company’s investment project positively impacts Tuscaloosa’s economy.”

Epsilon manufactures and delivers mechanical/electrical-centric systems in a modular, prefabricated form, optimized for a streamlined on-site completion. In layman’s terms, they build things like HVAC and chiller units for hospitals and other large buildings.

“The addition of Epsilon Industries will provide new high paying jobs and opportunities for hundreds of our citizens,” said Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with TCEDA and other local partners to support Epsilon Industries as they grow and thrive in our community for years to come.”

Epsilon expects to hire at least 80 employees by the end of this year. Many jobs for its Tuscaloosa plant are already posted online.

“The skilled trade positions associated with this highly specialized field will create new career opportunities for our citizens and complement our existing workforce,” said West AlabamaWorks Executive Director Donny Jones. “We’re excited about the opportunities coming to our area.”

West AlabamaWorks is hosting a job fair for Epsilon from 4 to 7 p.m. March 28 at the Northport City Hall Auditorium, located at 3500 McFarland Blvd. in Northport.

Epsilon Industries representatives will be available during the hiring event to answer questions regarding wages and benefits.
