West AlabamaWorks gets national honor, $200,000 grant

West Alabama Works

Big news for the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.

West AlabamaWorks has been awarded a $200,000 grant. That program has been operating since 2015 in an effort to bring the vision of a better future for Alabama’s workforce.

This grant was awarded for serving as an educational and economic bridge for youth in West Alabama. Carnegie Corporation of New York honored West AlabamaWorks as one of 10 exemplary programs in education.

They were selected by a panel of jurors that included leaders in business, higher education, and philanthropy.

“We happen to be one of the only two major workforce entities that were awarded this,” said West AlabamaWorks Executive Director Donny Jones. “By being chosen to be one of these 10, it kind of signifies the great partnerships that we have in West Alabama. How our business community, our nonprofits, our education partners have all come together to actually move the needle for our students across West Alabama.”

In addition to the grant, West AlabamaWorks will receive opportunities to document and share their store nationally.
