TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - Summer is almost here and one group is working to find jobs for teenagers long before school is out.

West Alabama Works started the IGNITE summer jobs program in 2022 and needs help making its upcoming hiring event a success.

They are asking more businesses to come forward that are interested in growing their workforce with young employees eager to work.

The second summer job fair for students through the IGNITE program is happening on April 24 at the Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy for students in the ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades.

Event organizers are seeking businesses not just in the Tuscaloosa area, but throughout West Alabama to participate. They want them to come and interview students and offer part-time summer jobs to those teenagers who could be good workers for them.

“Just across the board, we have restaurants, we have hotels, we have small businesses. We just talked with Publix grocery stores. Just anyone who’s willing to give a high school student an opportunity and maybe mentor them,” according to Tonya Mills with West Alabama Works.

West Alabama Works would love to hear from business owners or representatives whose company might benefit from hiring one or more students.

Anyone interested in participating in the upcoming job fair can contact Mills at tonya@westalabamachamber.com for more information about the IGNITE program.
