West Alabama Works unites Neighborhood Bridges donation portal

West Alabama Works improved the Neighborhood Bridges Foundation platform by combining the Tuscaloosa City Schools and Tuscaloosa County School System’s donation portal.

West Alabama Works is an organization that connects job seekers with potential employers.

Neighborhood Bridges helps connect students’ needs with willing donors to ensure . Their mission is “to bridge communities with schools in providing basic needs, removing barriers and seeking equity for students so they can engage and succeed in school and life.”

Anyone who wanted to help students in Tuscaloosa County through Neighborhood Bridges used to pick between the city and county school system, but putting them both under the same umbrella means donors can more easily help those in need.

This program is used by school district counselors and social workers, who post needs community subscribers can fill. Needs can include clothing, car seats, school supplies and other necessities.

“It’s really the basic needs you think every kid has,” said West Alabama Works Marketing and Communications Coordinator Khadijah Torbert. “Unfortunately, they don’t. So it’s really good opportunity to help the community.”
