Mad City Money Hosted in Pickens County

Alabama ONE coordinates and hosts Mad City Money at various high schools during the school year through its Alabama Aspire Foundation. Mad City Money is an interactive, fun financial literacy event that allows students to simulate budging practices.  Recently, Alabama ONE hosted at Pickens County College and Career Center, one of seven Adopt-A-School partners.

Each student was randomly given an occupation, income, and family card. The students rotated through the “life stations” where they had to make financially sound decisions about major purchases, such as housing and transport, essential needs, entertainment, and more. Through this experience, the students received a greater understanding about the cost of living, budgeting, and the importance of making good choices. High schools that are interested in hosting Mad City Money for juniors and seniors should contact Kortney Milien for details at kortneymilien@alabamaone.org.
